Is AEO just a new name for SEO?
Overlapping but distinct. Classic SEO competes for clicks on blue links; AEO competes for citations inside AI answers. The signals partially overlap — strong content, clear schema, entity coverage — but AEO demands specific formatting and entity work that classic SEO doesn't prioritise.
Can I track AI Overview citations?
Partially. Search Console is rolling out AI-search data, and third-party tools like Profound, Otterly, and Peec AI are filling the gap. Manual sampling is still the most reliable approach for smaller brands.
Does AEO work for Malaysian queries specifically?
Yes — Google AI Overviews have been showing for Malaysian commercial queries since 2024, and ChatGPT Search / Perplexity are actively used by B2B buyers in Malaysia. The entity signals and schema work equally well regardless of market.
